The 2014 C7 Corvette Stingray Lets The Driver Tailor The Drive

The 2014 C7 Corvette Stingray is one of the most technologically advanced high-performance automobiles ever to hit the streets. Five distinct driver modes electronically calibrate up to 12 performance variables to customize your Stingray with the appropriate handling and steer-ability for any road. Modes can be changed on the fly, enabling drivers to tailor the behavior of the car to any situation—an experience that’s part intuitive and part educational. The result? Drivers get maximum performance from a vehicle that can function as a daily driver, a luxury vehicle or a racecar.

1. Weather: Probably the most self-explanatory of all the modes. It adapts the vehicle to road conditions by distributing the appropriate power to the rear wheels, which promotes more confident driving in rain or snow. Tailored Traction Control is at the heart of this mode.

Road: Good for many road conditions you encounter in inclement weather. Probably would be really helpful on US 24 in the heart of the Rocky Mountains or on Interstate 75 in Florida’s Everglades (a.k.a. Alligator Alley).

2. Eco: This mode is designed to conserve fuel and provide the best gas mileage. Through Active Fuel Management, it limits your car’s power when traveling at cruising speeds. An Eco index display is available.

Road: Flat, open roads. For instance, Interstate 15 from Los Angeles to Las Vegas through the Mojave National Preserve or possibly Interstate 10 from Houston to San Antonio.

3. Tour: Ideal for your everyday driving, this mode offers quiet comfort (by relieving the stiffness from shock damping) during the start-stop of your daily commute. Customizable gauge cluster can display audio, navigation and phone data.

Road: That one you take to and from work.

4. Sport: As the name of the mode implies, this works best when aggressive responsiveness and power are needed. Available Magnetic Selective Ride Control is stiffened but tempered (like the steering). The dashboard display changes, easily revealing RPMs, and the throttle note becomes more audible (in other words... LOUDER).

Road: Tail of the Dragon, Deal’s Gap, NC. This road features 318 curves in 11 miles.

5. Track: Best used in autocross or on lapping days, this mode is exclusively for driving on a track. With legitimate race settings that provide maximum responsiveness (through available Magnetic Ride damping and Performance Traction Management) and throttle progression, it also displays a lap timer on the dashboard.

Road: Ron Fellows Performance Driving School, Parhump, NV or Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, Phoenix, AZ.

Honoring Our Veterans

Here at Findlay Chevy, we are all about our Veterans.  We hire them...We work with them...We do whatever we can to assist them.  This weekend we are debuting our Wall of Honor.

We are inviting all active military and retired personnel to come down on Saturday and Monday to sign our Wall of Honor.  We will be collecting non-perishables to benefit our Veterans in need.  We will also be raffling off items and all monies donated will go to the CWVofA.  

We are inviting all local military to come visit.  Also, since this is a big travel weekend, if you are going to be in Las Vegas come by and join us. Child Safety

IT'S ALMOST SUMMER!  The children will be in the car more...

One of the most important jobs faced by a parent is to keep their child safe. By far the most common type of injury accident involving children are those that also involve motor vehicle collisions. Not using a child safety seat correctly is a contributing factor in more than half of the cases involving death. And let’s not forget how distracting children can be to the driver. 

According to NHTSA crash data, nearly 325 children are harmed daily due to accidents on our roads. Approximately 5% of total fatalities due to car accidents are children. Car accidents are also the leading cause of child disability nationwide (brain injury, paralysis, etc.).  Hispanics are likely to move their children out of car seats and booster seats earlier because car restraint use is not a cultural norm back home so some are unaware of the extra steps they can take to improve their child’s safety.

These statistics are intense so I am going to write a series of blogs on keeping your child safe while you are in your car.  Over the years our cars have become much safer but we still have to do our part.  It is very important to know which seat is best for your child and your vehicle. You also need to know how to install the restraint properly.  But, with so many different car seats on the market it’s no wonder that parents find this subject overwhelming.

I am going to use information from the US Department of Transportation, NHTSA (the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), American Academy of Pediatrics, IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and more.  I am going to include videos showing how to use car seats and booster seats. I am going to include locations where you can get your car seats inspected.  And I will answer (or direct you to the proper authority) any questions you direct to me.  This is going to be fun, educational and hopefully help keep our children safer.

The 1st 2014 Impala in our valley!

We were so excited yesterday to see the 2014 Impala.  It arrived yesterday and Chevy did an incredible job in re-making the Impala.  It is a brand new updated car.  The one that arrived yesterday is already sold but we have 2 just like it that are being made now so we should be receiving them in about 3 weeks.  Because we are the #1 Volume Dealer in Nevada we have an advantage and General Motors have given us the lion's share of the new Impalas.  If you want one made just the way you want it - come on down and lets build you one.  Here are some pictures of the Impala we received yesterday.  What do you think of it?

Girls On The Run

We are very proud to be associated with this wonderful group.  Matt Masluk (our Internet Director) and his wife, Allison, are very involved with Girls on the Run.

Girls on the Run's goal is to empower girls to:

1. Have a strong sense of identity
2. Successfully navigate the challenge of adolescence and adulthood
3. Honor their voices by standing up for themselves and what they believe in
4. Focus on their unique strengths and talents
5. Recognize the power they have to impact their communities in a positive way
6. Know the joy that comes from true friendship and real teamwork
7. Celebrate their bodies through the completion of a 5k run/walk event

Girls on the Run inspires girls to choose life outside the "Girl Box."  The Girl Box is the place where many girls go around middle school when they begin to morph into what they think they should be instead of being who they really are. The messages of the Girl Box vary but the theme comes from a culture rooted in the belief that girls and women must conform to a set of standards that are often unattainable and dangerous to their health and well-being.

"You're not smart enough," "You're too smart," You're not thin enough," "You're too flat," "You're too loud," "You're not pretty enough" are a few well known Girl Box messages.

Girls on the Run educates and inspires third through eighth grade girls to stay true to themselves - to discover a life free of the Girl Box.

The next 5k run will be on Mother's Day - let's get the whole community involved!

Corvette Rallye

Were you able to make it over here to see the Corvettes?  There were about 105 of them parked all over our store's parking lot and the street!  Fun for all!

There is a big big West Coast Corvette Rallye this weekend.  Their last check in point will be here so we are expecting over 100 Corvettes.  They will be showcasing their cars here from around 2:30 - 4pm on Saturday before heading over to the Silverton.  Come on by and take a look at these gorgeous cars.

Racing Appreciation Day at Findlay Chevrolet

We are so excited that it is finally here. Racing Appreciation Day! It's the day before the Nationals start at the Speedway. Tomorrow night - Wednesday the 3rd - and it's going to be a roaring good time!

Greg Anderson and Jason Line with Summit Racing are going to be here with their NHRA 2014 Camaro. Dawson Racing will be here with their dragster. HTown Racing is also going to be here - along with a surprise guest.  The adrenaline!!

The Z/28 is Back!

My first car was a 1967 Z/28 that I dearly loved. Wish I still had it.

Are you as excited as I am about the 2014 Z/28?  It's a gorgeous car called "the most track-capable Camaro ever" right off the assembly line.  The outside is beautiful and the seats are sexy.  The exterior has been revised for high performance aerodynamics ... more efficient cooling and stability at high speeds! And, like the original, it will only come with a manual transmission!

According to Mark Reuss, president, GM North America:  "As the ultimate track-capable Camaro, this car restores the mission of the original Z/28 and serves as a testament to the expertise of Chevrolet as the best-selling brand of performance cars" and "This car could only come from Chevrolet and could only be called the Z/28." 

The hand assembled 7.0L LS7 engine (think Z06) delivers at least 500 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. The chief engineer says "The broad torque curve and high redline of the LS7 mean fewer shifts are required and the lightweight design improves the front to rear weight balance for better handling."  We should be getting the Z28 late this year so if you are wanting a track ready Camaro or just want to relive the Camaro of your youth...please let  me know!

Spring Event 2013

Our Spring Event went off without a hitch last weekend with a great turnout for Shred-it, United Blood Services, the Cub Scouts and our BBQ.  Todd did a great job at the grill and the Cub Scouts earned their Safety Badges.

Child Seekers Golf Tournament

Monday, 3/26/13, we sponsored a hole at the Child Seekers Golf Tournament at the Painted Desert Country Club.  There was a great turnout with approximately 18 foursomes. All the money raised went to Child Seekers - a fabulous cause.  Jose Tabares brought a gorgeous 2013 Camaro wanting to give it away for a hole in one.  Unfortunately, no one succeeded although our own Doug Fleming got the closest.

In 2 days the Camaro NHRA-certified rolling chassis designed for drag racing will become available. At noon EST consumers will be able to call 1-800-306-3005 to get a purchase certificate - there will be only a limited number produced - and bring that certificate to us to complete the sale. Each Camaro will be fitted with an NHRA approved roll cage and other safety equipment, along with NHRA approved racing chassis and suspension components and Bogart racing wheels mounted on Hoosier tires.

Each specially numbered chassis is assembled by had at the same facility that constructs Chevy's COPO Camaro production race cars and will only be made in Summit White with a production Camaro hood and SS grille, racing seats, racing switch panel (plus other equipment) so the racer doesn't have to start from scratch. 

And speaking about racing, The Summit Racing Team will be here on April 3rd with one of their NHRA Camaros.  The Nationals are held in Las Vegas starting on April 5th. We are very excited to have the Team here. More info as we get closer to the Day! 

For Our Local iPhone Users....

It’s here and we have great vehicle choices available for our iPhone friends.  The Sonic and Spark are the first vehicles to offer iPhone users Siri “Eyes Free Integration”.  This just blows my mind!  Talk about technological and safety advancements!

Using the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, customers with a compatible iPhone can direct Siri to perform a number of tasks while they safely keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.

It only takes a few minutes to activate Siri in our Service Department (iPhones with iOS6).  This even works for people that are already driving their Sonics or Sparks!

The driver simply connects their iPhone with the MyLink radio via Bluetooth, pair with the system and use the steering wheel voice activation button to begin and end their sessions with Siri in Eyes Free mode.

How do you remember your first car?

What do you remember about your first car?  Mine was a Camaro (of course) - I used to take it to the drags on Wednesday nights.  Those were the days! It's been a while but it is still my favorite car. Wish I still had it.  Did you love your first car?  Tell me about it!

We have a specialty Camaro in our showroom right now...it's a gorgeous Neiman Marcus version Camaro Convertible.  The picture doesn't do it justice so stop by and take a look at it!

A BIG weekend!

We had a good weekend.  We sponsor the 51’s and this last weekend was Big League Weekend at Cashman Field.  Our accomplished BDC rep Chris Silva brought a car, answered a lot of questions and watched as the Texas Rangers powered over the Chicago Cubs 8-5 in front of almost 9,000 cheering St. Patrick’s Day fans.

This weekend is going to be big – and I mean BIG!  On Saturday, the 23^rd, from 9am until 1pm, we are having our Spring Event!!!  

Shred-It will be here for a free document shred.  You can bring your private papers in and they will be shredded for FREE.  It doesn’t matter if it’s 1 folder or 3 boxes of papers – they will shred it all for you.  Safety first!

Speaking about safety…the Cub Scouts will be here earning their Automotive Safety Badges.  This will be comprised of 5 components:

• Spot the Tot.  This program teaches adults to do a complete walk around any vehicle to look for children, toys or pets before opening the door and starting the engine. It makes adults aware of dangers to children in driveways and parking lots. 
• Never Leave Your Child Alone.  Through NLYCA, Safe Kids teaches adults to take children with them whenever they leave the vehicle, even for short periods of time.
• Trunk entrapment.  The trunk entrapment activities and messages teach adults and kids to use trunks only for cargo-never as a play area.  They also demonstrate how to safely use the new trunk release handle found on all new cars since MY 2001. 
• Safety Belt fit test. Parents are to see how a correctly fitted seat belt should fit their child
• Safety features of the vehicle.  Findlay Chevrolet staff speaks to the children about the safety features of the vehicle such as air bags and children learn about the Onstar system. 

A parent must be present and there is no charge for this event.

United Blood Services will be here with a blood drive.  If you can give, please do as our blood bank is running low. If the “feel good” you get from helping your community is not enough – all donors will receive a voucher for two admissions to see The Australian Bee Gee’s show at the Excalibur!

And to top it off we are going to have a “world class” FREE Bar-B-Q.  The Bar-B-Q is from 11am-1pm so don’t forget to stop by and eat!

Team Chevy at the Daytona 500

The Chevy SS made its debut Sunday at the Daytona 500.  And, what a debut it was.  Jimmy Johnson drove the #48 car to victory and said he loved the car.  “Congratulations to Jimmie Johnson, (crew chief) Chad Knaus and (team owner) Rick Hendrick on their victory in The Great American Race,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “And for the Chevrolet SS to win its first points race is incredible. This is a culmination of a tremendous effort by our engineers, owners, drivers, crew chiefs and teams who worked together to develop the Chevrolet SS race car. So much hard work went into preparing the Chevrolet SS for competition in the Sprint Cup series. We waited a long time for this race, and the performance of the No. 48 team made that wait worthwhile.”

Johnson wasn’t the only driver on Team Chevy to place.  Dale Earnhardt, Jr. came in 2^nd, Ryan Newman came in 5^th, Regan Smith was 7^th and Danica Patrick who had pole position came in a respectable 8^th.   Team Chevy racked up their 22^nd Daytona 500 win – more than any other manufacturer showing that Chevy has earned all the accolades.

Adding this Chevy SS to the Chevrolet stable is going to get everyone’s juices going.  0-60 in 5 seconds for an upscale luxury sedan is amazing and the 6.2L V8 is what gets it there. Of course the racing SS has some modifications that you probably won’t find in your garage,  but it will have the same rear wheel drive small block V8 configuration.  This car is a beauty and has so much innovative technology that it’s going to blow you away…Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Vision Camera with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert (an incredibly safe car to drive) and my favorite – color Heads Up Display.   This summer is going to be hot in more ways than one – the SS, the Corvette and the Impala.  I can’t hardly wait!
